On Wednesday, April 22, 2026, I had the honor of participating in a pivotal event for the national digital economy: the First Meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Committee (PAK) for the Draft Presidential Regulation on the Gaming Industry. Held at the Hotel Four Points by Sheraton Bekasi, this day-long session (10:00 AM – 4:00 PM WIB) was a strategic move by the Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency to accelerate the development of our national gaming ecosystem. The meeting served as a vital coordination forum to discuss the amendment of Presidential Regulation No. 19 of 2024, ensuring our legal framework remains as dynamic as the industry it supports.

The meeting was high-level and collaborative, bringing together key figures from the gaming and research sectors. I was pleased to join alongside distinguished colleagues such as Shafiq Husein, President of the Indonesian Game Association (AGI), and Ihwan Adam Ardisasmita, CEO of Arsanesia. Representing the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), my focus was on contributing research-based perspectives to the discussions, which were opened with remarks from the Deputy for Digital Creativity and Technology and the Secretary of the Ministry of Creative Economy.
The agenda was divided into several substantive sessions, beginning with a comprehensive presentation by the Director of Games on the urgency of these regulatory changes. We examined the current “portrait” of the national gaming industry, identifying the primary challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. The 180-minute afternoon discussion was particularly fruitful, as it allowed each member of the committee to provide substantive input on cross-sectoral issues, from technical innovation to economic competitiveness.
One of the key outcomes of the day was the agreement on a strategic timeline and the next steps for the committee’s work. By harmonizing the visions of different ministries and industry experts, we are building a more inclusive and innovative environment for local game developers. As a researcher, I believe that such strong inter-agency synergy is crucial for creating policies that are not only theoretically sound but also practically effective for the industry players on the ground.
It is an exciting time to be part of Indonesia’s digital transformation. Strengthening the legal foundation of our gaming industry is a complex task, but with the collaborative spirit shown by the Ministry of Creative Economy, BRIN, and industry leaders like AGI and Arsanesia, I am confident we are on the right path. I look forward to our continued work in making Indonesia a global competitor in the gaming world.
