Navigating Personal Data Protection Policies with Komdigi in Bandung

On November 11, 2025, I had the honor of serving as the moderator for a pivotal session hosted by Komdigi in the city of Bandung. The event, titled “Technical Guidance on Governance and Measurement of Personal Data Protection Maturity,” brought together a proactive group of industry leaders to discuss the socialization and future direction of Indonesia’s data privacy policies. In an increasingly connected world, protecting personal data (PDP) has shifted from being a back-office compliance task to a front-and-center strategic priority.

During the discussion at Hilton Bandung, we explored how the latest government policies are designed not just as regulations to be followed, but as a framework to build a resilient and trustworthy digital ecosystem. I was joined by an esteemed panel of experts, including Muchtarul Huda, Rindy, Ajeng Risda Rahmadani, and Ichsan Sandi Darmawan. We delved into several critical areas, starting with practical ways for companies to measure the effectiveness of their internal systems in safeguarding user data consistently through data maturity standards.

A major focus of our conversation was on regulatory harmonization, specifically how to align business operations with national policy roadmaps to prevent overlapping or conflicting implementations on the ground. We also emphasized that data protection is a collective responsibility that requires a strong synergy between the government as the regulator and the industry as the executor. The enthusiasm from the participants was a clear indicator that the Indonesian digital sector is moving toward a higher level of awareness where it is no longer just about knowing the rules, but finding the best ways to apply them.

Wrapping up the day, there was a strong sense of confidence that with mature governance and clear policy direction, our digital space will become a much safer and more credible environment for everyone. This collaborative dialogue proved that when regulators and industry players sit together, we can build a sturdier foundation for Indonesia’s digital future. I left the session feeling energized and looking forward to more of these impactful sessions that bridge the gap between policy and practice.
