Bridging Knowledge: AI Ethics and Data Wise Planning with Komdigi

Engaging with the academic community, especially students, is a vital part of my role as a researcher at BRIN. In collaboration with the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi), I recently had the opportunity to present my research at a seminar held at the Hotel Harper Malioboro, Yogyakarta. The session, titled “Pemanfaatan Kecerdasan Artifisial yang Beretika dan Bertanggung Jawab,” focused on how we can harness the power of AI while maintaining strict ethical standards.

During my presentation, I focused on two core research areas that are essential for the future of our digital ecosystem:

  • The DIKW Pyramid and Wise Data Planning: I presented research on the Data, Information, Knowledge, and Wisdom (DIKW) hierarchy. I emphasized that “good” Artificial Intelligence can only be achieved through the wise and structured organization of data. By providing context and meaning to raw data, we can transform it into actionable knowledge and, ultimately, the wisdom needed for sound decision-making.+2
  • AI Efficiency in Public Services: I showcased how these data principles are applied in real-world scenarios, such as the development of the SIHALAL system. My research demonstrates how AI can be used to verify product names and streamline registration processes, significantly increasing efficiency. However, I also highlighted the critical need for these systems to comply with the Personal Data Protection Law (UU PDP) to ensure public trust and accountability.

Sharing these insights with students is crucial because they are the next generation of innovators who will shape our technological landscape. I discussed both the immense benefits of AI—such as increased productivity and innovation—and the potential dangers, including cybersecurity risks, algorithmic bias, and privacy concerns.

The goal of this research and these seminars is to move beyond the classic science-fiction fears of technology, like those seen in the 1927 film Metropolis, and toward a future where AI is used as a responsible “co-pilot”. By prioritizing data integrity and ethical frameworks, we can ensure that Indonesia’s digital transformation is both innovative and safe for all citizens.
